Here at the Credit Repairmen, we believe in telling the stories of our clients. But we also believe in the people that work for our company, so this will be a running feature introducing you to the employees we believe in as well.
John Schwab is currently our Marketing Director for the business team. The company is still deciding if he’s cool enough to be invited to the company’s fantasy league, but he’s more than sincere enough to be trusted with talking to our clients. A veteran of the Persian Gulf War, and avid Mario Brothers fan, we thought we should talk a little bit with him on a more public forum.
We decided to test John with some basics. What do you love about your job?
“For me, it’s as basic as being about helping people. I’ve coached volleyball for 30 years, even while I was in the military. For me, I’ve always just wanted to help people. And the two kind of go together. There’s that education aspect, tied together, when you know there are things you can do to help people out.
What does that have to do with credit?
“When I went to high school, they taught me all the usual; math, english, science, but not credit. There is really nothing out there to educate the public, and it costs people thousands of dollars per year, every year.”
So what are people missing in their finance education?
“A lot of people just don’t understand the concept of tiers, and the way credit scores are bundled together. Most people are compulsive buyers anyway. And they just don’t think about credit, what it means, and how it affects their ability to buy.
You could have gone anywhere, John. Why the Credit Repairmen?
“The big thing I’ve seen is that this company cares for their clients. We get to know them. We make sure we do the right thing, and our communication is better than anywhere else. When I was a loan officer, and a realtor, I worked with Adam (Hetrick), and Adam would always do the right thing. So that was the big thing for me; knowing I was surrounded by the right people who shared my beliefs.
What’s the biggest obstacle to convincing people they need credit repair? What makes you good at your job, Mr. Schwab?
“One of the biggest obstacles is that people want a guarantee. They want everything fixed overnight. And that’s because they get used to the misconception that most credit repair companies are rip offs, and these companies say things like guaranteeing specific credit scores. We can’t guarantee. What we can do is guarantee an efficient process. You have to really talk to people and explain how it probably took them awhile to hurt their credit. It will take some time to rescue it.

Either you get the really big ones, where you’re a small number, or you get the really small ones where they don’t have offices. That’s the thing with us.
